The Department of Psychiatry shares the tripartite mission of the School of Medicine: excellence in clinical service, teaching, and research. We strive to provide exceptional mental health care to our patients, with specialty services for individuals across the lifespan.
We have a broad view of our educational mandate. Faculty in our department provide unique clinical and research experiences to undergraduate, graduate and medical students. In addition, we train tomorrow’s mental health professionals using modern approaches to teaching across our many and varied clinical sites. Finally, we provide ongoing education to our own faculty and to area professionals.
Research in the Department of Psychiatry is wide-ranging in scope and approach, and it aims to advance knowledge that will improve the lives of people with mental illness and substance use disorders.
