Welcome to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry web page! From its founding more than 35 years ago, the department continues to evolve as any dynamic academic department should. As the only University-based Psychiatry Department and training program in Central Connecticut, we remain dedicated to the fundamental elements required of a contemporary academic Department of Psychiatry. While measured change continues here as part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts, the basic framework for training, clinical service delivery, research, and community outreach are well established and interconnected as part of the collective vision of this department.

Our faculty take pride in a department dedicated not only to improving itself, but also committed to improving behavioral health care in the region.

We are committed to providing quality state-of-the-art care to both the public and private sectors, to the training and development of clinicians and clinician scientists who are clinically adept and culturally sensitive, to serving as a resource to City, State, and Federal systems, and to helping those most in need. Further, we strive to integrate Psychiatry with Primary and Specialty Care and to working within a multi-disciplinary team and the family context of the patient. Our faculty are dedicated to the development of meaningful research projects to advance clinical care and the underlying science of Psychiatry. The application of new training methods for medical students and residents is always with a constructive, but critical, view towards improving clinical skills.
