THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNETICUT DIVISION OF CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY
The residency in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine is a two-year community integrated training program in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Because most child & adolescent psychiatrists practice in non-institutional settings, it is important for child residents to be exposed to multiple training experiences in the community. UConn child psychiatry residents rotate through seven training sites in the greater Hartford, CT community over the course of the two-year residency in child & adolescent psychiatry, experiencing a rich variety of work and clinical environments serving children and adolescents with behavioral health and psychiatric disorders.
Given the explosion of scientific knowledge in child & adolescent psychiatry over the past three decades, it is important that the child & adolescent psychiatrist be trained in evidence-based approaches to clinical care and is knowledgeable about research literacy. Familiarity with research literacy skills is important even if one does not plan a research career and is training primarily to practice clinical pediatric psychiatry. At the residency in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine we emphasize teaching research literacy skills to all child residents and require each resident to participate in an academic project over the course of their training.
We are a small child residency with available positions for two child residents per year in each of the two training years. Because we are a friendly and committed faculty each resident receives much individual attention to help foster their development as a child & adolescent psychiatrist and to help them clarify their career goals. We welcome your interest in our residency in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and hope you will explore us further.
Sincerely,
Daniel F. Connor, M.D.
