THE TRAINING MODEL

Our training program, simply put, is predicated on reform concepts. The diagram above shows our linked system of care and the training components the Department values. Integrating a public health perspective with state-of-the-art diagnostics and acute care management using evidence-based medicine, coupled with long-term follow-up is the basic model.

The Department also is committed to training individuals within the context of developing the Clinical Scientist. Our faculty are invested in having psychiatric residents who will be steeped in understanding the scientific basis of psychiatry and who will be able to apply these concepts to clinical care as well as research. We see this as particularly important for those residents interested in becoming academic psychiatrists, but we also believe that the best clinicians are those who understand the research in their field.
