Thomas E. Lawlor, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. Dr. Lawlor's career has been in public sector psychiatry and he has been involved in clinical, training, educational, research and administrative activities. He has been medical director of a clinical, training and research unit in a state hospital; helped initiate and then directed an electroconvulsive therapy service in an academic center; was clinical years coordinator for medical students; was medical director of an emergency mental health program in an academic center emergency room; was medical director of a state hospital and successfully closed it; was an area medical director; and was a state medical director. He is presently Director of the Outpatient Clinic at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He presently supervises medical students and residents. His research interests include the right to refuse treatment, involuntary outpatient treatment, and systemic quality and risk management paradigms.
