Alexander P. Miano, M.D., is Medical Director of the John Dempsey Hospital ED Psychiatric Service, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at The University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He is Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has been an adult psychopharmacologist and neuropsychiatrist in active private practice for more then 10 years.
Dr. Miano's fellowship training is in Neuropsychiatry and Psychopharmacology at Yale - Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit. Alongside clinical psychopharmaceutical trials, his research interests focused on studying the impact and the efficacy of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in treatment-resistant depression and in anxiety disorders. The team's published results offered early evidence of a new potential neuropsychiatric intervention in treatment resistant mood and anxiety disorders.
Dr. Miano served as Clinical Faculty and Medical Director of the Clozapine Clinics at Yale/CMHC. He has also been involved in the clinical management of the Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic and Clozapine Clinic at Western Connecticut DMHAS.
As part of the clinical faculty in the School of Medicine and in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Miano assists with teaching and training of Residents, Medical Students, and the other clinical staff of the UConn Health Center.
