Robert L. Trestman, PhD, MD

Executive Director, Correctional Managed Health Care

Dr. Trestman completed his residency in Psychiatry and fellowship in clinical research at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, where he remained as a faculty member. In January of 1995, Dr. Trestman became Deputy Chairman of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, serving as Clinical Chief and responsible for strengthening community partnerships. In 1999, Dr. Trestman joined the University of Connecticut School of Medicine as Vice Chairman for Clinical Affairs, a post he held through August 2005. From 1999-2003, he also served as the Mental Health Services Director for UCHC's Correctional Managed Health Care (CMHC), responsible for mental health services in all of Connecticut's jails and prisons. He is now Executive Director of CMHC, the largest public service medical arm of UConn and Connecticut's largest staff model HMO, providing care to over 20,000 individuals every day. Dr. Trestman has conducted research into the neuropsychology and neurobiology of severe mood and personality disorders; studied correctional mental health and mental health service delivery; has been responsible for clinical care system design and program implementation; and is an advocate for the destigmatization and access to state of the art care for those with severe mental disorders.
