Dr. Tanev has been with UCHC since 2003. He spends about half of his clinical time on the inpatient Medical Psychiatry Unit. The unit serves as a regional referral site for patients with complex neurobehavioral disorders. It has particular expertise in the assessment and treatment of patients suffering from neuropsychiatric disorders (i.e. behavioral and cognitive disorders secondary to neurological diseases), mood and anxiety disorders in the elderly, behavioral disturbances in dementia and co-morbid psychiatric and medical problems. The unit enjoys strong nursing and occupational therapy resources, and access to the full range of consultation services available at UCHC, including physical therapy, internal medicine, neurology, and others.
Dr. Tanev is the Medical Director of the UCHC Huntington’s Disease (HD) Program. The program was first established in 1997. It is funded by the State of Connecticut and provides free care for Connecticut residents. The HD Program provides genetics testing and counseling, assessment, and treatment for people at risk for HD or those showing signs of the disease.
Additionally, Dr. Tanev has an outpatient Neuropsychiatry Clinic where he treats patients with traumatic brain injuries, atypical dementia presentations, Parkinson’s Disease, and other patients with concomitant neurologic and psychiatric problems.
