Mary Jane Fitzpatrick, A.P.R.N.
Nurse Clinician
Mrs. Fitzpatrick has been with the University of Connecticut Health Center Huntington's Disease Program since December 1997 when the program opened. She is a graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, CT and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Central Connecticut State College. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree at Yale University in New Haven, CT. Mrs. Fitzpatrick has worked in the field of Psychiatric-Mental Health nursing for many years with persons who were severely and profoundly mentally ill in a variety of settings.
As a member of the Huntington's Disease Program, Mrs. Fitzpatrick is responsible for the clinical and nursing assessments of those clients who are treated in the program. Additionally, she provides individual and family therapies and provides pharmacological interventions as needed. Since education is a key component of the program, much energy is put into helping caregivers and other health professionals understand this illness and provide appropriate treatment for those patients and their families who are afflicted. Mrs. Fitzpatrick provides numerous inservices on Huntington's Disease and the care of people with Huntington's Disease to nursing homes, hospitals and other ambulatory service centers. She also serves as the site coordinator for the PHAROS Study amd the COHORT Study with the Huntington's Study Group (HSG).
